How to Update GST Rates in Bulk as per New Slabs? (Effective 22 September 2025)
With the GST reform effective from 22 September 2025, India’s GST structure has been simplified from four main slabs (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) to just two primary slabs: 5% and 18%, plus a special 40% slab for luxury and sin goods. This change aims to make compliance easier for businesses and reduce confusion for consumers
Refrens provides a straightforward way to update your inventory and stay compliant with these new GST rates.
Step 1: Check the New GST Slabs for Your Items
Review the official GST rate list to determine the correct slab for each item you sell. The government has published a detailed list of which goods and services fall under each new slab.

Step 2: Export All Items from Refrens
Navigate to your Inventory Dashboard and click "Download CSV" to get a CSV file of all your inventory items.
Step 3: Prepare the CSV for Bulk Update
3.1) Open the CSV file and Remove all columns except for these four: 'SKU', 'Item Type', 'Tax Rate', and 'Manage Stock'
3.2) Change the column names:
To ensure that the CSV filw is ready for bulk updation, we need to change the column names to system accepted formats:
For that, change -
item Type to itemType
Tax Rate to gstRate
Manage Stock to isStockManaged
SKU to sku
As shown below:
3.3) Replace the old GST Rates
Then, for each item, replace the old GST rate (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) with the new applicable rate (5%, 18%, or 40% for luxury/sin goods).
Step 4: Upload the Updated CSV
Go back to Inventory Dashboard > "Add Items" Dropdown Options > "Bulk Update Inventory":
Then click on "Choose File" and upload the CSV file you just prepared:
Step 5: Verify and Refresh
The update process may take a few seconds to a minute, depending on the number of items. Refresh the page after a few seconds to check if the new rates have been updated.
That's it!
The next time you create a new document, system will automatically apply the new GST rates.
