# How to generate & download VAT Return reports on Refrens? (For UAE Businesses)

Refrens automatically generates a UAE VAT 201 report based on eligible sales and purchase transactions for your selected reporting period.

The report follows the official VAT 201 structure, covering your Output VAT, Recoverable Input VAT, and Net VAT Due.

With the VAT Returns dashboard, you can review the breakdown of standard-rated supplies across the UAE Emirates, enter permitted adjustments and external figures, and download your report for reconciliation before filing your VAT return through the FTA EmaraTax portal.

### Step 1: Navigate to VAT Returns

Log in to your Refrens account and navigate to Reports > VAT Returns.

You will be redirected to the VAT Returns dashboard, where you can select a reporting period, review your VAT figures, and download the report.

### Step 2: Select the Reporting Period

Choose the reporting period for which you want to generate the VAT return.

Refrens retrieves eligible transactions within the selected period and calculates the corresponding VAT 201 figures.

### Step 3: Review Your VAT 201 Report

The report is organized into four sections.

###### 3.1. VAT Summary Cards:

The dashboard displays three summary cards to help you understand your VAT position at a glance.

**Output VAT:** Shows the total output tax for the selected reporting period.

**Recoverable Input VAT:** Shows the total recoverable input tax for the period.

**Net VAT Due:** Shows the difference between output tax and recoverable tax, indicating whether VAT is payable or recoverable.

###### 3.2. Output VAT

The Output VAT section displays standard-rated supplies and other output tax categories for the selected period.

Standard-rated supplies are broken down across the seven UAE Emirates:

1. Abu Dhabi
2. Dubai
3. Sharjah
4. Ajman
5. Umm Al Quwain
6. Ras Al Khaimah
7. Fujairah

The section also includes:

1. Tax refunds provided to tourists.
2. Supplies subject to reverse-charge provisions.
3. Zero-rated supplies.
4. Exempt supplies.
5. Goods imported into the UAE.
6. Adjustments and additions relating to goods imported into the UAE.
7. Total output tax.

The report calculates the applicable totals based on the underlying transactions and permitted adjustments.

###### 3.3. Input VAT

The Input VAT section displays the tax associated with eligible expenses and supplies subject to reverse-charge provisions.

It includes:

1. Standard-rated expenses and applicable adjustments.
2. Supplies subject to reverse-charge provisions and applicable external values or adjustments.
3. Total recoverable tax.

Review these figures to understand the recoverable input tax for the selected reporting period.

###### 3.4. Net VAT Due

The Net VAT Due section summarizes your overall VAT position.

1. Total value of output tax due
2. Total value of recoverable tax.
3. Net VAT payable or recoverable, calculated as (Total value of output tax due) minus (Total value of recoverable tax).

A positive net amount indicates VAT payable, while a negative net amount indicates VAT recoverable.

### Step 4: Enter Adjustments and External Values

Certain fields in the VAT 201 report allow you to enter external figures or permitted adjustments directly into the report.

Editable fields are indicated by a visual marker, while calculated fields remain read-only.

###### How to Edit a Value =>

Locate an editable field in the relevant VAT 201 box.

Click the field and enter the required amount.

Refrens recalculates the affected totals and Net VAT Due.

Only designated fields accept manual inputs. You cannot directly edit calculated totals.

|| Important: Values entered directly into editable fields are temporary. They may reset when you reload the page or change the reporting period. Review your entries and download the report before leaving or refreshing the page.

### Step 5: Refresh Your VAT Return Report

If you need to refresh the report data, click Refresh Report.

|| Important: Inline adjustments are temporary and may reset when the report is refreshed. Make sure you review and download your figures before refreshing.

### Step 6: Download Your VAT Return Report

After reviewing your VAT figures and entering any required adjustments, you can download the report using the download option at the top of the VAT Returns page.

### Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Does Refrens automatically submit my VAT return to the FTA?
No. Refrens prepares the VAT 201 report for review and download. You must complete the filing process separately through the FTA EmaraTax portal.

2. Why might the report fail to generate?
A transaction in a foreign currency without a valid exchange rate can prevent the report from being calculated. Check the relevant document's currency conversion details and ensure a valid rate is available.
